I am a 27yr old female with 2 children ages 3 and 1…..does anyone have any dieting suggestions that actually work? I am needing eating ideas that would work well with me and my family, as well as activities I can do with my children?
I try to walk about 5 miles a day. I really need to lose between 20-25 pounds to be at a healthy weight.

Don’t think of it as dieting first off. Think of it as a lifestyle change because if you want to get the weight off and keep it off you have to be willing to change forever. I found that cutting my fat down to 35 grams a day and calories to about 1500-1600 has made a big difference. Once you hit your goal weight bump it back up to between 60-65 grams of fat and your calories between 2000-2500 depending on how active you are. Also being very active has helped too. Activities you could do with the kids would be to go for walks to the park or go swimming since summer is almost here. Get out and run with them. Also I joined the Y and go work out whenever I can. Luckily my family is very supportive and I have lots of people offering to babysit and I manage to go 5 days a week. In less that 3 months I have lost 30lbs and I feel great. When you make meals try to have a main course, fruit and veggies with very little to no butter. IF I need butter I use a light margarine and only use like a teaspoon. Cut back on your salt also and drink TONS of water to help you stay full and hydrated. Avoid sugary drinks as much as possible. One cup of 100% fruit juice a day would be fine but try to avoid soda. I do drink a regular one every now and then but if I really need the caffeine I try to go diet. Good luck and I hope you reach your goals.

Yeah, try exercising. Really, dieting only works when accompanied by exercise.

This is simple but it does help: drink water!! You can carry a bottle with you wherever you go, so it is not a hard change to make. Drinking water speeds up the metabolism, you will feel fuller and be less likely to snack between meals if you drink enough, and your body has to burn calories to process the water. Besides losing weight, you will also be healthier and probably feel better as a whole. Hope this helps!!

Increase your physical activity. I imagine you are already at your max with a 3 & 1 year old. Cut back on your carbohydrate intake – sweets and starches – to less than 300g per day. Your meals should be mostly fruits, vegetables and meat. Not more than about 1/2 cup of potatoes or other starches. You still need carbs for your brain to work. I eat six times a day. Three small meals like the above, then a snack between meals. Watch the carbs. The key is portion control. It’s not really what you eat, but how much you eat.

I did the above and lost 35 lbs since Dec 2009. You don’t want to do more than 1-2 lbs a week, it will make you weak.

Everyone’s body metabolism is different. What worked for me, may or may not work for you.

Drink lots of water! An Ice cold glass of water is said to burn 60 calories. If you drink it before you eat it makes you full faster. Also water curves your appetite.

Find a good Aerobics exercise video on youtube. This one really worked for me:

Don’t eat bread and try to get all your carbs only from vegetables. Of course you should cut on calories. Try a 1000 calorie diet. And binge on one day of the weekend to make sure your metabolism stays normal. I know everybody says that this is healthy but I have to disagree. Native Americans used to starve themselves for two weeks time. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this then just diet and exercise and you should be fine:)

Try Cue Sticks…they’re fun, motivational temporary tattoos and stickers that you can wear or stick on food packages to help you stick to any exercise or diet plan. I like the "Is This Tweet Really Necessary?" one because those little BLTs (bites, licks, tastes) of the kids’ leftovers really add up. The tatts can keep you on track and give you a little reminder whenever/wherever you need it. Little changes add up. Go to http://www.mycuesticks.com.
