I’m about to enter a new career in sales and I have a huge collection of all kinds of motivation/self improvement and sales/negotiation training materials. Audio, video and books.

However, in the *real* world, what have people found to be highly useful and workable? If you are a high achiever sales/negotiation wise-what if any would you recommend to a newcomer?

I’m looking at business to business telesales as a starting point and hope to add face to face relationship building as I progress.

At the moment I’ve a list of authors a mile long and I’ve listened to a fair amount. However having not field tested it all, I could be in fantasy land as to would work :-) .

Thank you in advance for any assistance. UK based
I do like Frank Bettger’s book. I acquired this off an old business pal of mine. Charming and sounds realistic. Dale Carnegie is another I do like.

The other recommendations are appreciated as I hadn’t yet seen them. Thank you.
Thank you Ken. John Maxwell I hadn’t come across either so far.

Covey, I have his audio which I listened to twice a couple of weeks ago whilst doing a fairly long hands on job. I have his book, that I’m using to revise what I heard :-) .

Here’s my Top Five:

"How I raised myself from Failure to Success in Selling" by
Frank Bettger
"How to have Confidence and Power when dealing with People" by Les Geblin
"How to win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie
"Personality Plus" by Florence Littauer
"The Magic of Thinking Big" by David Schwartz

After getting commissioned as a officer what should be the sphere of emphasis that the young officer has to concentrate on to develope his leadership traits and qualities as a leader to enhance his standing within his unit, his subordinates, peers and superior officers with greater relevance to self improvement and self development personally and professionally.

The best thing he can hope for is a quality Platoon Sergeant…if he has one…and he is willing to pay attention and listen, that man will teach him everything he needs to know and then some. The Company First Sergeant and the Battalion Sergeant Major are also good resources…
But if you go in like a know it all…you are in for a hard time.
I’ll tell you what I always told young Lieutenants, you are in charge but this is MY platoon. If I tell you what you are about to do is stupid and you tell me you are in charge and we are gonna do it your way you remember this….
The Battalion Commander is not going to come to you when it is screwed up, he will come to me and ask why did you let that Lieuteanat do that.
I hope that gives you some perspective on how it really is.

http://www.therenegadehealthshow.com – This has everything and nothing to do with health…

I’ll explain here. This is not a list of health resources, so clearly to an outsider it doesn’t apply to anyone interested in health at all.

But, in fact it has everything to do with it.

Finding your passion is #1 on my list of healthy practices… so when I mentioned this, I realized that I should provide (and you asked for) a list of resources of how and where you can do this.

So here’s the list…

I am currently on a campaign for self-improvement. A lot of aspects are involved. One thing I am upset about is that it seems that no matter how hard I try, I can never succeed at video gaming, despite the fact that I was awesome as a kid. It make me feel old. So what I am wanting to know to help is:

1.) How do I efficiently improve my skills in first person shooters, RPGs, action/adventure, sports, and strategy games (both real-time and turn-based)?

2.) I have heard that, in MMORPG’s especially, many people use macros to help them advance without investing so much time. In the past, this has frustrated me. Any insight into this?

3.) Can you use an external hard drive with Xbox 360 and Wii through the USB port? I’m finding that the new 120 GB hard drive for X360 is pricy, and I would appreciate if Wii had a hard drive.

If video game is part of your "self-improvement" list, you need to get a life. Yikes…

I am a 28 year old lady, and recently started thinking of working on my self-imporvement. I figured it is good to start with the way I look – like keeping my nails done, thinking of color balance of the clothes I wear etc. I also started thinking abt health which encouraged me to join the gym and smoke less. Do you have any ideas of good ways of self-improvement? I feel I need to become a better person, also people who look nice and are positive and nice to everybody, tend to be more successful in their life. If you have any ideas of what areas in a person usually need improvement, and more importantly, the ways how you can become a better person, please drop a note! Thank you in advance.

Hello kavai,

Congrats on your decision to work on yourself to become the outstanding person you were designed to be.

Once you start to make the changes, you will not want to look back.

There are tons of self improvement tools available for you to help you in this journey. A good place to start is to pick one of the well known self improvement teachers and become a student of their work, either by reading, listening to audio, or even attending an event. You will find free information about self improvement teachers and concepts at http://www.self-improvement-to-personal-development.com/index.html.

It also has information about affirmations, inspirational quotes and other cool stuff.

Personally, I’ve been deeply involved in self improvement for over 10 years now. I would say you are unlikely to go wrong with anything Tony Robbins.

Also, you may want to check out some online forums dedicated to supporting one another in their self improvement quest. A really good one is http://www.successvibe.com/forum/

Hope this helps and to cheers to your continued personal wellness,

Kay
