I have polycystic overies and am taking medication called metphormin. I have been told to stay on the GI diet. Do you have any tips in how to make myself feel full quickly and any other tips in trying to lose weight as I can’t seem to lose the weight as easily as a normal person who is overweight.

I have polycystic ovaries too and YES it is difficult to lose or at least maintain your desired weight. I tried to take some pills and even ventured with some ginseng and formulas from Japan and China but it didnt do that much. After that realization…I was left with no other choice but to regularly exercise so I wont gain weight.

I am in my late 30s and I want to be healthy as I get older and I wanted to know what is the healthiest way to lose weight and keep it off for good, what excersizes can you do to reach the healthy goal of weight loss, for those of you that lost a lot of weight 40 pounds or more what were healthy ways that you lost weight and how did you keep it off without gaining it back?

I lost 55 lbs. in 6 mo’s. I had just returned from Germany and Paris where I walked everywhere and still ate normal foods. When I got home I had lost 10 lbs.
Then I bought nothing but Lean Cuisine for dinner and a yogurt smoothie for breakfast and drank a lot of water. If I ate lunch at all it was fresh veggies.
I got down to 96 lbs and now my family is yelling at me to stop!!!
So I’ve gained back to 100 which is where I want to stay since I;m 5′ tall.
I really believe in Lean Cuisine, the food is fresh and very good. Don’t drink sodas and walk every chance you can.
It worked great for me Good luck.

Well, i really want this shirt. But it doesnt have it in my size. So im trying to lose weight to be able to buy it. (I’ve been wanting to lose weight for awile). So how much weight do you have to lose to go a clothing size down? 2 clothing size down? 3 clothing size down?

My experience seems to be about the same as the other responders before me. 10 pounds loss got me from waist 34 to 33. I want to get to 32 so I guess that’s another 10 pounds. Bummer!

What is a fast way to lose weight, without taking sports, and without just drinking water?
How can I lose weight fast, without taking any pills or drugs?
I’m concerned about my health. I’m very unhealthy and overweight. Its not so much what my body looks like, but more of how I feel and how my health is?and if I’m going to keep myself from getting it, I need to lose weight.
Is there a fast way to lose weight?

Weight loss is an overall process and there are no magic answers. Pay no attention to weight loss supplements and pills and all the latest fads. You need to think about many factors but most of them are related to issues we’ve known about for a very long time. There are many sensible things you can do that will make a tremendous difference over the long term if you need to lose weight. It can be done in a healthy way. This is what has worked for me.

Keeping a food journal really does help. It will give you a much better sense of how much you are eating, and when, and why.

Make a few additional small changes – walk everywhere, always use stairs instead of elevators, walk on escalators, get up and move around at least once an hour if your work or your life in general is sedentary, walk every day, use a pedometer. Walking 10,000 steps a day is a really good idea. Build up to a long brisk walk everyday, or most days. Be more active and watch less TV and spend less time on the computer. Buy one piece of exercise equipment to have at home and be strict with yourself about using it. Sometimes you can find mini-steppers or exercise bikes at second hand stores and thrift stores for just a few dollars.

Start a weight lifting routine. Join a gym. Possibly you can find one that has someone who specializes in weight lifting programs for beginners. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism as well as improve posture and appearance overall. Even if you can’t get to the gym you can work out at home using things around the house. Invest in a good weight training book. The Dummies series actually has a good one.

In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish. Particularly if you choose a vegetarian lifestyle include natural peanut butter, hummus, dried fruit and nuts. Pay close attention to getting the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.

Make your portion sizes smaller. Use a smaller plate – in our society we have become accustomed to thinking that we need a large plate of food at every meal, and we don’t. About quarter of your plate of food should be protein and at least half of it should be veggies.

Learn to count calories. At your current weight and activity level, you may possibly need about 2000 calories or more to maintain your current weight. So you will lose weight at a reasonable and healthy rate if you cut back to about 1600 or 1700 calories a day.

Eat small amounts frequently, rather than three large meals. Never skip breakfast. Include some protein in your breakfast. It will help get you through the day.

Drink plenty of water, at least 8 big glasses of water a day, and more if it is very hot, if you sweat a lot, or if you are exercising intensely, and eliminate fruit juices. Fruit juices have too many calories, so get your vitamins from fresh fruit, not the juice. You will begin to see changes in your body.

Vary your routines. Don’t eat the same number of calories every day (vary your calories from 1400 a day to 1900 or 2000 some days), eat a variety of foods, and do different kinds and amounts of exercise. You will lose weight much more efficiently if you mix things up from time to time so that your body doesn’t adjust to any one routine.

An area that many people overlook is getting enough sleep. You are much more likely to overeat or to binge eat if you are tired and not well rested, so get enough sleep.

This winter break, I am planning on making a strong effort to lose weight. For all who are wondering, the break will be 6 weeks long.

Here is what I am planning to do:
-Eat a very reasonable diet.
-Take protein supplements.
-Drink lots of water.
-Ride my bike for an hour or two a day.
-Go to the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and do some anaerobic exercise to build lean muscle.

Would this be unhealthy? I have a feeling I will lose weight rather quickly, but a friend told me that losing weight fast is almost as unhealthy as being overweight in the first place. Is my plan unreasonable?

Thoughts?

Start doing that before the break, start out slow, it will take a while for your body to get accustomed to all the changes. Starving yourself is just as bad as burning off all the calories you ate that day, just make sure you get 1200 calories a day, and ride your bike for an hour maybe, two seems a bit extreme for now, especially if you’re coming out of an inactive lifestyle. Your friend is right, just don’t go overboard with the exercising. If your body goes into starvation mode you could easily gain all the weight back as fast as you lost it. Good luck!

I’m planning on doing an hour and a half workout 3 times a week, eat healthier/less, for two months. My goal is to lose 15 pounds in that two months. However, its been a week since, and I’ve been losing 2 pounds, then after eating lunch or dinner, gaining that 2 pounds back. I feel like I’ll never be able to lose weight!! Is it even possible to lose 15 pounds in two months?

It depends on how much you weight now. If you are just overweight (not bigger) then it will probably be harder to lose the 15 lbs but if you are obese or above it will come off faster if you work hard and eat right.

I don’t know if you have seen the she "the biggest loser" but sometimes they will lose up to ten pounds in a week. That is because they are very large and they are also working out about 6 hours a day and they have the Registered Dietitian and fitness instructors. So on that show it is definitely possible but if you are doing it on your own be careful….here is something for you to think about:

1 lb = 3500 calories
if you can burn 500 calories a day x 7 days = 3500 calories (one pound)

Here is how I would recommend you to cut the 500 calories daily….burn 250 calories with a good workout. Get your heart rate up and you will burn the calories in less time. The other 250 calories a day I would cut it out of what you are eating. Think about how much you usually eat and then try to find a way to cut back by 250 and honestly that isn’t really very much.

Anyway good luck I hope I helped a little bit! =)

I need to lose weight in my thighs, there’s some stretch marks on my inner thighs and I want to lose that. Also, I want to flatten my stomach a little, I don’t have much stomach fat, just a little that I’d like to lose. And I have to complete this before school starts back up in 4 weeks.

You can go to the gym, That is the best choice
cos the gym instructors has so many techniques on what is the proper exercise for that…

How can I lose weight in my thighs and legs?
I have big round thighs and legs!
I want them to be skinny. No fat at all!
I exercise about 30 min everyday to lose weight. All my exercise are for lower body.
Im planning to lose 15 kg. Will my thighs and legs will be smaller when I lose weight?

When you exercize a body part, it builds or tones muscle, which actually increases the weight because muscle weighs more than fat.

There is no way to target a body part for losing weight; weight will come off the same way it is gained.

WHat you woulod need to do is focus on a balanced low calorie diet (but BALANCED) and ways to increase resting metabolic rate.

My question is on a few different levels. Please feel free to be longwinded because I really want to learn about this.

I’ve been losing weight over the last 2 months on diet alone. I’ve lost about 12 pounds this way. I understand how this works – you can lose weight by reducing caloric intake and changing the types of foods you eat.

What I want to understand is how exercise makes you lose weight. I have the beginnnings of understanding on this – that you’re burning calories with the exercise…like if you eat 1400 calories in a day and you burn 300 then your body only thinks you have eaten 1100, right?

But then how do all those old calories come off? The ones from three months ago that made me gain weight?

On the same vein, if i’ve only been losing weight with diet (steadily), and then i have one really good workout, when will it be reflected in my weight? I’m not saying I expect to lose all my weight with one workout, I’m trying to simplify the question.

You burn calories at rest. The higher your metabolism, the more calories you will burn while exercising, and the more you will burn at rest, the idea is to raise your metabolism.
If you just QUIT eating, your body will go into starvation mode and think to itself "HEY no food coming in… all systems SLOW down we need to conserve what we’ve got" So you have to eat.

If you have good muscle tone it is your goal not to lose it. You want to gain muscle and lose fat. Muscle also weighs more than fat, so instead of going so much by the ‘scale’, you should be judging progress by how your clothes fit instead.

So a person needs to eat… healthily. Every 4 hours, so you dont have that low blood sugar ‘crashing’ thing going on. No sugar, little fat, a lot of greens and veggies, drink much fluids (64 ounces a day plus an extra 8 ounces for every 20 pounds overweight), a ‘deck of cards’ sized portion worth of protein every day (only one day a week red meat) and complex carbohydrates (whole grains).
IF you are taking in less food than the 2500 calories a person of normal weight would eat, then it is logical to assume you would be taking in less vitamins than you need, SO you need a daily vitamin supplement.
The ideal exercise regimen would include 30 minutes of walking daily, three times a week aerobic training (get heart-rate up)
and two or three times a week weight training. All this can be done at home (without a gym) but a gym with a personal fitness trainer is always nice. Oprah has one, why shouldn’t YOU?
Also don’t forget about:
-stress (dont need that… laughter best medicine, stay in good humor, be happy)
-rest (need to sleep and get those REMs)
-not smoking
-little alcohol or caffiene

I also say that you should do things to make yourself happy, like a nice hair trim (trip to salon for facial manicure pedicure etc.)
buy a nice new shirt every time you lose five pounds and get your teeth bleached at the dentist office.
Good luck on reaching your goal and congratulations on your progress thus far.

I need to know how to lose weight without building muscle under the fat. I know that cardio is good…but what are some good cardio excercises? im 13 and i dont want anyone to know im trying to lose weight because its embarrassing for me…it just is. so i cant go out and buy special stuff cuz my dad s gonna want an explanation. anyways….my diet….i dont care if its healthy. i need to lose weight in lik e a week…so i know i might gain the weight back by not eating healthy…but i dont care i just need this for an occasion. i reall wanna lose weight on my stomach and my thighs. how do i do this without building muscle under my stomach?

thanks.

ok look,
the answer is very obvious- don’t eat too much!!
think about it- the countries where people don’t stuff themselves with food, such as asia, the people are slim, and in perfect health

today, the society is all about food
we’re eating because the food tastes good, not because we’re hungry!
you see food ads on tv, magazines, everywhere!
food is everywhere, you cannot go anywhere without being offered food!
you need to learn to resist the temptations.

back in the older days, you didn’t eat everyday! you ate when you hunted and caught food!

you would be perfectly fine not eating for a day, it’s actually good for you because it cleanses out your body!! all that getting a minumum of at least 1500 calories a day is BS!! you can survive perfectly fine on just 500 calories consumed from HEALTHY food. Sure, you’ll have an uncontrollable desire to eat, but trust me, you’ll LIVE.

and all this diet crap is aimed at overweight consumers. the media suggests that anorexia is bad, all these models are dying blablahblah..that’s all just to make the normal obese american feel better!! i mean, how often do they show people dying from being overweight???

there’s really no need to eat junk food either. it’s a waste of money, and all it does is make you fat!! think about it. twinkies and soda and chips don’t fill you up, they just taste good, which makes you want to eat more!

look at the skinny people nowadays. they don’t constantly crave for icecream or stuff themselves with food whenever they see it.
